Als een brandweerman je redt uit een brandende flat waar je op de tiende verdieping je domicilie had, kan het je niets schelen dat die man je ruw beetpakt en de trap afslingert. Het maakt je niets uit hoe hij zich voelt als je je man, je vrouw of je kinderen om de hals vliegt die al beneden wachten en gered zijn. Maar bij onze redding door Jezus Christus ligt dat toch een beetje anders. Jezus redt ons niet in de eerste plaats voor ons gezin, Hij redt ons voor Zichzelf. Jezus Zelf – en alles wat God voor ons is in Christus Jezus – zijn onze beloning.
“ Ik ben het brood des levens, als iemand dorst heeft, laat hij bij Mij komen. “ ( Johannes 6 : 35 / 7 ; 37 ) Bij onze redding gaat het niet in de allereerste plaats om de vergeving van onze zonden, het gaat om de gemeenschap met Christus Jezus. ( 1 Kor. 1 : 9 )
“ Hij is het ook die u tot het einde toe de zekerheid geeft dat u geen blaam zal treffen op de dag van onze Heer Jezus Christus. God – door wie u geroepen bent om één te zijn met Zijn Zoon Jezus Christus onze Heere – is trouw.
De vergeving die wij van Jezus ontvangen ruimt alles wat zich tussen Hem en ons bevond uit de weg. Als de gemeenschap met Jezus ons niet vervullen kan, dan is onze redding blijkbaar niet echt de moeite waard. Als we in het verleden blijven hangen, en steeds blijven treuren over fouten of zonden die allang vergeven zijn – ook niet. Het is heel anders. De heerlijkheid en genade van Jezus Christus zijn gelegen in een onverwoestbare eeuwige blijdschap. Dat bewijst de Bijbel overduidelijk.
“ Dit heb Ik tot U gesproken opdat Mijn blijdschap in u is, en uw blijdschap volkomen wordt. ( Joh. 15 : 11 / 17 : 13 )
De blijdschap van Jezus is er altijd al geweest, van eeuwigheid af aan. Hij is de afspiegeling van Gods oneindige vrolijkheid. “ Ik was een troetelkind bij Hem, ik was één en al verrukking, dag aan dag, te allen tijde mij verheugend voor Zijn aangezicht. “ ( Spreuken 8 : 30 ) De eeuwige Heere Jezus Christus – die ook Gods Zaakwaarnemer was in de schepping – verheugde zich altijd voor Gods aangezicht en God was altijd bij Hem. Dat lees je ook terug in het Nieuwe Testament.
“ Maar tegen de Zoon zegt Hij : “ God, Uw troon houdt stand tot in alle eeuwigheid. En de scepter van het recht is de scepter van Uw koningschap. Gerechtigheid hebt U liefgehad en onrecht gehaat. Daarom God, heeft Uw God u gezalfd met vreugdeolie, als geen van uw gelijken. “ ( Hebr. 1 : 8, 9 )
Jezus is: de blijdschap en het volmaakte geluk in één. Zijn blijdschap is groter dan die van alle engelen in de hemel bij elkaar. Hij weerspiegelt de volmaakte, oneindige, heilige en onbegrensde vrolijkheid van Zijn Vader.Petrus heeft in zijn rede, die opgetekend staat in Handelingen 2, uitgelegd dat psalm 16 betrekking heeft op Christus. “ Ik zag de Heere te allen tijd voor mij. Omdat Hij aan mijn rechterhand is, wankel ik niet. Daarom is mijn hart verheugd en mijn tong verblijd, omdat U mijn ziel niet aan het dodenrijk zult overlaten, noch Uw heilige ontbinding zult doen zien. U zult mij vervullen met blijdschap voor Uw aangezicht. “ Ja, de Christus die uit de dood is opgestaan zal de schaduwen van de dood van zich afschudden en Zich verheugen met de vreugde van God. De heerlijkheid van Christus is Zijn onbegrensde eeuwige, onveranderlijke blijdschap, daar in Gods aanwezigheid. Toch was Jezus tegelijkertijd een man van smarten. ( Jesaja 53 : 3 ) Die met ons kan meelijden in al onze zwakheden omdat Hij in alle dingen verzocht werd zoals wij. ( Hebr. 4 : 14, 15 ) HIj huilde met mensen die verdriet hadden. ( Joh. 11 : 35 ) en verheugde Zich met hen die blij waren. ( Lucas 10 : 17, 21 ) Hij had honger ( Matth. 4 : 2 ) Hij was moe ( Joh. 4 : 6 ) Hij werd in de steek gelaten ( Math 26 : 56 ) en verraden ( Math. 26 : 45 ) gegeseld ( Math. 27 : 46 ) bespot ( Matth. 27 : 31 ) en gekruisigd ( Math. 27 : 35 )
Grote en diepe blijdschap beleven betekent kennelijk niet dat er alleen maar blijdschap aanwezig is. Maar toch heeft Jezus om de vreugde die voor Hem lag, het kruis verdragen en de schande veracht. Hij heeft plaatsgenomen aan de rechterhand van God ( Hebr. 12 : 2 ) Het is voor ons van bijzondere betekenis om te bedenken waar die diepe blijdschap op gegrond was. Ze was gegrond op de redding van elk verloren schaap. De Goede Herder verheugt zich over een teruggevonden ziel. ( Math. 18 : 13 ) Hoe groot zal Zijn blijdschap dan wel niet zijn over de ontelbare schare die niemand tellen kan! De meeste mensen weten wat lijden is, maar niet zoveel mensen kennen deze diepe blijdschap. Daar mogen we om bidden want het is een gave van de Heilige Geest. ( Gal. 5 : 22 ) Want de vrucht van de Geest is liefde, vreugde en vrede, geduld, vriendelijkheid en goedheid, geloof, zachtmoedigheid en zelfbeheersing.
