Johannes 17 : 15 – 21 

De christelijke gemeenschap van de gelovigen is geroepen om in de wereld te leven, ondanks het feit dat ze daar niet bij hoort. Een mogelijke bepaalde vijandschap, groter of kleiner, mag er niet toe leiden dat wij ons als christenen uit de wereld terugtrekken. En een veilig leven leiden zoals in de Qumran gemeenschappen gebruikelijk was. Wij moeten onze taken in de wereld vervullen. Daarbij mogen wij altijd de hulp van God de Vader inroepen en verwachten. De leerlingen van Jezus waren geheiligd om zoals hun Meester een bepaalde taak in de wereld te vervullen. De heiliging van Jezus maakt hun heiliging mogelijk en Zijn opdracht staat model voor die van Zijn leerlingen. Het  Hogepriesterlijk gebed van Jezus had niet alleen betrekking op Zijn eigen leerlingen, maar op de hele gemeenschap die zou ontstaan door het Evangelie dat zij in Woord en Daad brachten.  

Eenheid komt tot uiting in broederlijke liefde en is het bewijs dat Jezus inderdaad degene is die God gezonden heeft. Zijn heilsboodschap is echt. In deze eenheid vind je het bewijs van de aanwezigheid van de liefde van God.
