De Drieënige God
Christenen geloven in hun hart en belijden met hun mond dat er één God is. Hij is een geestelijk wezen. Eeuwig, onbegrijpelijk, onzienlijk, onveranderlijk, oneindig, almachtig, volkomen, wijs, rechtvaardig, goed, en een overvloedige fontein van alle goed.
Christenen kennen Hem door de schepping maar ook door Zijn Heilig en Goddelijk Woord.
Dit woord is niet naar ons toegekomen of bedacht door de wil van mensen, maar heilige mensen van God die aangestuurd werden door de Heilige Geest hebben dit woord gesproken. Daarna heeft God door een bijzondere zorg die Hij voor de mensen en hun zaligheid had, Zijn knechten – de profeten – opdracht gegeven om Zijn geopenbaarde woord op schrift te stellen. God Zelf heeft de Heilige Wet met Zijn vingers in twee stenen tabletten gekerfd. Daarom worden de Bijbel en de Heilige Wet van God Heilige en Goddelijke geschriften genoemd.
De Elohim heeft de boeken van de Bijbel aan ons gegeven om ons geloof ernaar te richten, daarop te funderen, en het te laten bevestigen. Christenen geloven zonder twijfel alles wat er in deze geschriften opgetekend staat. Niet omdat de Kerk dat zegt, maar omdat de Heilige Geest er voor zorgt dat de woorden van de Heilige Schriften in hun harten weerklank vinden. Die woorden geven leerlingen van Jezus de vaste overtuiging dat het uitspraken zijn die van God vandaan komen. Ze geloven dat omdat ze wat er in de Bijbel staat in hun eigen leven bevestigd zien.
Leerlingen van Jezus geloven dat de Heilige Schrift de wil van God op een volkomen manier weergeeft. Ze geloven ook dat alles wat nodig is om zalig te worden in de Bijbel staat. Omdat er in de Bijbel staat dat het verboden is om er iets aan toe te voegen of vanaf te halen ( Openbaringen 22 : 18, 19 ) blijkt uit deze woorden overduidelijk dat de leer van het Woord van God bijzonder volmaakt en op alle manieren volkomen is. De Elohim heeft het daarom ook verboden om geen ander geschreven boek gelijk te stellen met de Bijbel, hoe heilig de auteurs ook waren. De Bijbel zegt namelijk dat alle mensen slecht zijn.( Romeinen 3 : 10, 23 ) Dat is niet leuk om te horen, maar de Heere heeft het gezegd. Daarom wijzen wij met ons hele hart alles af wat niet met deze verordening van God overeenkomt. Dat hebben de apostelen ons geleerd toen ze zeiden: “ Beproef de geesten of zij uit God zijn. ( 1 Joh. 4 : 1 – 6 ) “ En: “ Als iemand tot u komt en deze leer niet brengt, ontvang zo iemand dan niet in uw huis. “ ( 2 Johannes 1 : 9,10, 11 )
Volgens deze waarheid, en het Woord van God, geloven wij in een enige God Die een enig Wezen is. In Hem liggen drie Personen begrepen. Zij zijn al in de eeuwigheid naar hun Goddelijke eigenschappen van elkaar onderscheiden. Ze bestaan uit God de Vader, en de Zoon, en de Heilige Geest.
De Vader is de Oorsprong van alle zichtbare en onzichtbare dingen.
De Zoon is het Woord, de wijsheid en het Beeld van de Vader.
De Heilige Geest is de eeuwige kracht en almacht, die uitgaan van de Vader en van de Zoon.
Dit verschil in eigenschappen zorgt er niet voor dat God in drieën gedeeld is. De Bijbel leert ons dat de Vader en de Zoon en de Heilige Geest elk Zijn zelfstandigheid heeft maar toch Eén zijn.
De Vader is nooit zonder de Zoon en ook nooit zonder de Heilige Geest geweest. Ze zijn alle Drie van gelijke eeuwigheid in één zelfde Wezen. Onder deze Drie Eenheid is geen Eerste of Laatste, want Ze zijn alle Drie één in waarheid, in mogendheid, in goedheid en in barmhartigheid.
Dat weten wij allemaal uit de getuigenissen die in de Bijbel opgeschreven zijn, maar we weten het nog beter omdat wij het getuigenis daarvan in ons hart voelen. De getuigenissen van de Heilige Schrift leren ons om in deze Heilige Drievuldigheid te geloven. Hoewel deze leer ons verstand te boven gaat geloven wij deze waarheid omdat ze in de Bijbel staat. Wij blijven ons hele leven lang leerlingen van Jezus en verwachten dat wij de volkomen kennis van deze waarheid pas in de hemel zullen ontvangen. ( Belijdenis des geloofs artikel 1 – 9 )
