Het huwelijksweekend is voorbij. De donkere dagen voor Kerst zijn begonnen. In onze hoofden en harten klinken de woorden nog na. Wat hebben we veel gehoord! Elkaar als echtgenoten zomaar iets vertellen is er niet meer bij. Door welke filter spreken we en hoe hebben we geluisterd? Alle puzzelstukjes vallen op zijn plaats: Logisch dat zijn schoenen nooit in de kast staan. Begrijpelijk dat gezelligheid hem voor alles gaat: hij komt uit het beschermend gezin!
En dat zij altijd de maaltijd over wil slaan en op een tijdstip dat elk normaal mens naar bed wil ineens zin heeft in een romantische strandwandeling en dan ook nog eens een broodje SMOS wil halen: ze heeft dat chaotische gezin als voorbeeld.
Hoewel, haar vader had toch wel zijn strikte regels. Natuurlijk heb ik het in ons gezin voor het zeggen als man en vader, maar het overkomt me regelmatig dat ik achteraf denk: volgens mij doe ik nu toch precies wat ZIJ wil, maar ze laat me het alleen maar op mijn manier zeggen.
Ach, het gaat er uiteindelijk maar om dat we niet samen in de kelder van kritiek terecht komen, want daar is het ijskoud! Op ons prikbord hangt het overzicht van het huis van communicatie en we proberen alle niveaus te halen, alles zo op zijn tijd. En als we het elkaar niet meer duidelijk kunnen maken dan hebben we altijd nog pagina negentien uit de map met al die gezichtjes: ik voel mij….(geaccepteerd, verward, gesnoerd, saai, vernieuwd, verliefd!). De gouden regel, het grootste puzzelstuk, hangt er naast en die luidt: “Behandel jouw partner steeds in alles zo, zoals jij zou willen dat jouw partner jou behandelt”, naar Matth. 7:12 (pagina één!).
En nog iets, als we het eens niet met elkaar eens zijn, dan gaat niet de één rondjes rennen langs het kanaal en de ander haar moeder bellen, maar we roepen: Hoera, een conflict! We pakken de map erbij en lezen de wijze woorden van Bram na: “Het huwelijk is geen sprookje van de prins op het witte paard. Wij worden allemaal verwond en wij verwonden elkaar.”
Als ik deze woorden lees, denk ik onwillekeurig aan de tijd dat alles nog goed was op aarde. Toen Adam en Eva elkaar volledig begrepen, omdat ze in volkomen harmonie met hun Schepper waren. Er was geen zonde en er waren ook geen wonden. Er was volkomen transparantie tussen de Heere en de mensen en ook tussen de mensen onderling. Heerlijke Eenheid! Wat is het toch verschrikkelijk dat we ongehoorzaam waren. Waarom wilden we toch als God zijn? Hij zorgde zo goed voor ons! Wat hebben we Hem bedroefd gemaakt. Wat is het begrijpelijk dat Hij tot in het diepst van Zijn Wezen toornig op ons was.
Ik denk aan mijn Benjamin, die ondanks het feit dat hij al twintig is, zo lief is voor mij en zo afhankelijk ook. Zou ik hem gegeven hebben voor het leven van mijn vijanden? Mijn God deed het! Hij gaf het Liefste wat Hij had, Zijn eigen Zoon. Hij liet Hem afdalen op deze donkere aarde, waar bijna niemand op Hem wachtte. Hij liet Hem afdalen in de allerdiepste versmaadheid en angst van de hel. Dat straffeloze onbevlekte Lam. Zodat wij nimmermeer van God verlaten zouden worden, en nooit hoeven te wanhopen in ons leven. Die hoe alles ons soms lijkt tegen te lopen, altijd op Zijn goedheid mogen hopen.
Als je daarop ziet, dan ga je tijd nemen voor God. Maar ook tijd voor je partner. Tijd om elkaar (beter) te leren kennen. Tijd voor je kinderen, zodat je weet wat ze doen. “Dan ken je de dingen uit hun leven”, zei Bram. Onze dagen zijn vol, niet alles past erin. Begin niet met flutdingen, stel je prioriteiten! Begin je dag met de Heere, een heerlijke stille tijd, waarin Hij spreken wil tot je hart: “Ik stond op mijn wacht, en stelde mij op de sterkte, en hield wacht om te zien wat Hij in mij spreken zou…” De ene keer is het een bestraffing en de andere keer een troost, een bemoediging of een aanwijzing. Maar nooit zegt Hij: Vandaag heb ik niets voor jou..
Het is heerlijk om getrouwd te zijn en het is een zegen om een gezin te hebben. Maar veel groter is dat geestelijke Huwelijk met de Hemelse Bruidegom.
