Interview met Jaap Koppejan, Oud Raadslid van de SGP Vlissingen.
De gezellige woonkamer met het grote raam ziet uit op een enigszinds omgewoeld buitenhofje, gemarkeerd door een gloednieuwe mooie houten schutting. Een duur souvenir dat herinnert aan de laatste storm in Zeeland. Een uitnodigende lage bank in de zitkamer wacht mij op. Jaap nestelt zich in zijn comfortabele lazy boy stoel, en we beginnen een geanimeerd gesprek.
Hoe lang bent u Raadslid geweest Jaap, en wat was uw motivatie om zitting te nemen, terwijl u al zo`n drukke baan had ?
Ik was 16 jaar raadslid, van 1990 tot 2016. Mijn motivatie kwam pas achteraf eerlijk gezegd. De kiesvereniging had mij kandidaat gesteld, en er kwam iemand van de partij langs om dat mee te delen. Ik vroeg de Heere God om raad. Die liet niet op zich wachten.“ Waarom wordt gij een christen genaamd? “ werd er die zondag in de kerk gevraagd door middel van de catechismuspreek. Het antwoord op deze vraag zou heel goed in kunnen houden dat ik aan de oproep van de SGP gehoor zou moeten geven! “ Zonder mij kunt gij niets doen. “ dat was de tweede verzekering van Gods leiding door de preek die ik hoorde tijdens de tweede dienst die zondag. Dezelfde tekst die de Heere mij ingaf toen ik benoemd werd tot directeur van de Graaf Jan school! Omdat aller guten Dinge drei sind kwam er een derde bevestiging. Vaak liet ik de kinderen een psalmvers opgeven, dat uit volle borst meegezongen werd. Die dag gaf Moniek Sanderse – onvergetelijk – psalm 62: 4 op.
Doch gij mijn ziel, het ga zo `t wil
Stel u gerust, zwijg Gode stil
Ik wacht op Hem, Zijn hulp zal blijken;
Hij is mijn Rots, mijn Heil in nood,
Mijn Hoog Vertrek, Zijn macht is groot.
Ik zal noch wank`len, noch bezwijken!
Zo mocht ik mijn werk als Raadlid van de SGP beginnen, in vast vertrouwen op de Heere.
Hoe was de situatie toen u met uw werk begon?
In het begin was het spannend. Het eerste belangrijke vergaderpunt dat ter tafel kwam was de homo- nota. Moeilijk! Ik drukte mij ongelukkig uit. Aanwezige leden van het COC vielen dreigend naar mij uit en het was maar gelukkig dat de heer van Bochhove die toen ook in de Raad zat mij met enkele rustige zinnen uit mijn benarde situatie hielp. Zo leerde ik mijn woorden af te wegen en mij politiek correct uit te drukken. Het tweede onderwerp ging over de invoering van betaald voetbal, daar was een miljoen mee gemoeid. Voetballen is een prachtige sport maar niet op zondag! Ik leerde dit zo in de vergadering neer te leggen dat er naar mijn woorden geluisterd werd.
Hoe staat u tegenover de SGP beginselen?
Die beginselen kan ik grotendeels steunen, maar het vrouwenstandpunt vind ik achterhaald. Spreuken 31 mogen we rustig naar onze tijd vertalen. Waren vrouwen toentertijd samen in de landbouw aan het werk, ook anno 2018 mogen huwelijkspartners elkaar steunen in hun dagelijks beroep. Dat geldt ook voor vrouwen binnen de SGP. Helaas zijn de zogenaamde zwijgteksten niet correct geraadpleegd bij het afkeuren van het vrouwenlidmaatschap bij het hoofdbestuur van de SGP. Het gaat hier immers niet om een ambt in de kerk. Zeker, het gezin moet bovenaan staan in de belangenafweging van het hebben van een baan buitenshuis. Man en vrouw moeten het daar volledig over eens zijn. Meisjes die een mooie opleiding volgden stoppen die na hun huwelijksdag niet in de grond. Maar ik kan mij aan de andere kant ook goed voorstellen dat vrouwen het standpunt innemen: “ de kostbare opvoeding van onze kinderen laat ik niet van mij afnemen. “
Hoe ziet u het verschil tussen de SGP en de CU?
Landelijk is er over en weer veel waardering voor elkaars beginselen. Ik betreur het dat er geen coalitie gevormd is hier in Vlissingen. Mijns inziens is het achterwege blijven hiervan meer een probleem dat persoonlijk van aard geweest is. Wie weet komt die coalitie er nog eens.
Hoe ziet u het functioneren van de SGP in Vlissingen op het huidige moment?
Lilian Janse vraagt van tijd tot tijd moedig de aandacht. Niet alleen principieel, maar vooral ook praktisch.
Een voorbeeld? De grondafvoer bij een open graf werd lange tijd niet uitgevoerd. Mede dankzij haar vragen is dit nu een feit.
De pulsvisserij is ook niet aan haar aandacht ontsnapt. Lange tijd lieten de vissers op de Schelde hun zware sleepnetten en kettingen over de bodem van de zee schrapen, terwijl zij aan het vissen waren. Momenteel is dat vanuit milieuoogpunt verboden. Vissers moeten hun netten nu zodanig hoog hangen dat de bodemflora niet verwoest wordt. De vissen worden nu met stroomstootjes gedwongen omhoog te komen en zo de netten binnen te zwemmen. Niet voor niets wordt de SGP door haar milieubewustheid ook wel de Groen – rechtse partij genoemd!
Hoe kijkt u naar de huidige situatie in Vlissingen?
Ik vind die verontrustend omdat er grote bezuinigingen plaats moeten vinden. Niet in het minst verontrust mij ook de Artikel 12 status die de gemeente gekregen heeft. De eerste jaren zullen alleen de hoogst nodige en onontkoombare uitgaven gedaan kunnen worden. Dit biedt weinig ruimte voor nieuwe initiatieven op welk gebied dan ook. De crisis van 2008 heeft hier ook niet positief toe bijgedragen. Had deze niet plaatsgevonden dan was het aankopen van het Scheldeterrein een succes geweest. nu is het onverantwoord.
Samen met Lodewijk – uw zoon – en veel andere jongelui hebben we een hele mooie tijd gehad in het Evangelisatie werk. Samen schreven we een kerkplan. Hoe kijkt u daar op terug? Hoe ziet u onze inspanningen, onze gebeden en ons enthousiasme?
Ik vond het bijzonder, het heeft me getroffen. Het heeft mijn hart pijn gedaan om te zien hoe dit mooie initiatief niet doorging. Jullie waren je tijd ver vooruit.
Heeft u zelf iets met Evangelisatie?
Toen ik laatst in de kerk hoorde dat wij zelf ook moeten uitstralen wat wij geloven, troffen die uitspraken mij ineens. Daarom ben ik die zondag mee gaan zingen in de stad. Ik vond het prachtig om te doen! Het inloophuis vind ik een mooi alternatief, ik geloof dat het mede een antwoord kan zijn op de gebeden die jullie gedaan hebben. Een schaduwzijde vind ik de aanwezigheid van de Herberg – het inloophuis van de PKN en de Kasteelstraat waar ook dergelijke Evangelisatie initiatieven lopen. Daar fietste ik deze morgen langs, en dacht: “ wat moeten de niet – gelovigen die al deze versnipperdheid zien wel niet denken?
Heeft u een tip of advies voor dit versplinterde Evangelisatiewerk in Vlissingen, terwijl de velden er wit zijn om te oogsten?
Probeer elkaar op te zoeken met een project waar je allemaal achter kunt staan!
