‘ Laat mij toch Uw majesteit zien’ zei Mozes. Hij antwoordde: ‘ Ik zal in Mijn volle luister voor je langs gaan en in jouw bijzijn de naam Heer uitroepen; Ik schenk genade aan wie Ik genade wil schenken, en Ik ben barmhartig voor wie Ik barmhartig wil zijn. ‘
Het wonder was geschied, JHWH had aan Mozes toegezegd dat Hij met hem mee zou gaan, de toekomst tegemoet. Mozes vatte moed, hij was zo dankbaar, en vroeg in zijn enthousiasme aan de Heere of Hij Zijn Goddelijke luister wilde openbaren. Als je iets van God ziet, iets over Hem hoort of leest dat je hart inneemt, dan wil je steeds meer over Hem te weten komen. Zo verging het ook Mozes. Hij kon niet genoeg bevestiging krijgen van het feit dat de Heere met hem op zou willen trekken. Op die manier zou hij verzekerd zijn van het feit dat hij veilig met het volk weg zou kunnen gaan van de plek waar de Heere Zich geopenbaard had. De Elohim beloofde Mozes vervolgens dat Hij Zijn karakter en goedheid aan hem bekend zou maken. De proclamatie van de naam ‘ Heer ‘ zou de concretisering van deze openbaring zijn. De naam JHWH draagt het karakter van de naam van God in zich. Onder alle omstandigheden zou God aanwezig zijn. Hij zou niet zomaar zonder meer aanwezig zijn, maar Hij zou daar veel goeds aan toevoegen. Hij zou genade en barmhartigheid schenken aan de mensen die Hij had uitverkoren. God zou Zelf de Genadige en Barmhartige zijn, hoe heerlijk was die belofte!
De Heere was nog niet uitgesproken. Hij zei tegen Mozes dat hem een voorrecht te beurt zou vallen dat gewoonlijk niet aan stervelingen gegeven werd. Hij zou God mogen zien. Dat zou niet zomaar kunnen, want Gods heerlijkheid is van een zodanige kwaliteit, heiligheid en grootheid, dat wij, gewone mensen, zouden sterven als we Hem echt zouden zien.
Maar ik wil even stilstaan bij dit wonder, deze gave van God aan Mozes:
Mozes, die zoveel had moeten lijden toen hij voor het volk Israël op kwam. Gevlucht, en jarenlang van het hof waaraan hij opgegroeid was gescheiden. Gescheiden van zijn ouders, gescheiden van de dochter van de farao die zoveel voor hem had betekend. Eenzaam door de woestijn gezworven, tot op het moment dat hij geen enkele verwachting meer had van Gods beloften aan Israël gedaan. Hij was op Gods woorden teruggegaan, en had opnieuw veel moeten lijden voordat het volk werkelijk mocht vertrekken. Maar Mozes was gegaan. Hij had gezien hoe lastig het volk van Israël te leiden was. Hij had uiteindelijk daar bij de berg Horeb alle hoop verloren. De Heilige Geest moet Mozes moed, intellect en daadkracht gegeven hebben om zelfs tegen Gods besluiten in te spreken. En Hem te herinneren aan het verbond met de aartsvaders.
En dan God, die hem daarvoor beloonde. Mozes mocht zijn Goddelijke Vriend en Gesprekspartner zien. Zo zie je hoe door grote moeilijkheden en conflicten heen, Mozes nog dichter aan zijn God verbonden werd.
Ik vind Mozes een geweldige man. En ben erg dankbaar dat Hij God mocht zien. Dit gebeuren geeft moed om altijd, in de meest moeilijke situaties helder te blijven en God aan Zijn beloften te herinneren. Hij is een God die zich laat verbidden. De geschiedenis van Mozes is een aansporing om onze hoop uit het Woord en de beloften van God te blijven putten. Mozes` God is nog steeds dezelfde, en tot in eeuwigheid.

Today, I went to the beach with my kids.
